The Department of Biochemistry is concerned with teaching first MBBS students about the chemical basis of life.  An elucidation of the chemistry of cell processes is fundamental to the understanding of the roles of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, nucleic acids, hormones and enzymes in regulating body processes. Through theory lectures, practical classes and demonstrations, first MBBS students are taught about roles of various chemical mediators in normal and abnormal body processes. As it is rightly said ‘Today’s Biochemistry is tomorrow’s medicine’. Hence the Department of Biochemistry strives to give first MBBS students a bright start on their journey of exploration of medicine.
